Meet Bijou! Her name translates to jewel in French, and she truly is a tiny treasure. This approximately 4.5-year-old Chihuahua mix has a heart of gold and a past that deserves to be shared. Recently rescued from a hoarding situation, Bijou spent her early life in a dirt pen alongside 60 other dogs. She faced the harsh elements, dealt with fleas, and battled intestinal parasites, never knowing the comforts that every dog deserves. Yet, Bijou radiates love and joy. She adores people, showcasing her playful spirit and affectionate nature. After years without proper attention, she’s ready to shower her new family with cuddles and kisses. Adjusting to a pampered life comes with its challenges, though. Bijou isn’t housebroken or crate trained yet, but she’s a smart little lady who can learn with patience and positive reinforcement. A securely fenced yard is essential as she’s still learning about the world outside her previous environment, making her a potential flight risk. Bijou does show interest in the larger dogs in her foster home, although she is a bit intimidated by their size. We are unsure how she feels about cats, as her foster home doesn’t have any. Due to her background, a home with children ages 10 and up is recommended. Bijou is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm negative, and flea and parasite free.
