Meet Canela — a remarkable dog who has transformed from fearful to fearless, one little victory at a time. Her journey at Conroe Creature Refuge has shown tremendous progress, and it's heartwarming to witness. Initially, Canela was a terrified girl who would hide her face, tuck her tail, and avoid interactions. Now, she actively seeks out human affection and thrives on physical contact. It's been rewarding to see her discover the kindness and love that people can offer. Canela has a sweet disposition and is eager to please. She's motivated by food and treats, making positive reinforcement an excellent way to assist her ongoing training. She does well with dogs of all sizes, though she may take her time with introductions. Cats and children are also included in her growing list of friends. While she's made significant strides in confidence and socialization, some of her old instincts can resurface when she's startled or in unfamiliar situations. For her continued growth, she needs a patient handler and secure leash equipment who understands how to provide the right support. Canela is suited for an active household or an apartment with regular exercise and positive socialization opportunities. Most importantly, she needs someone who will continue to nurture the progress she's made and prove that the world can be a kind place. This resilient girl has so much love to give.
