About Deacon

Meet Deacon, a 4-year-old Black Lab mix ready to steal your heart. He’s the embodiment of the classic Lab personality: playful, friendly, and full of life. Deacon boasts a shiny coat and a strong build, making him quite the handsome fellow. His journey hasn’t been easy; after spending over a year in a Texas shelter as their longest resident, he was transported to Iowa to find the loving home he deserves. Deacon absolutely loves to play, whether it’s with people or other dogs—just make sure they can match his size and energy. A controlled introduction to new canine pals is best, and once he senses they’re ready for fun, his playful spirit is contagious. He’s smart, too, knowing commands like sit and down, and he thrives on learning through play. While Deacon can be a bit shy around new people, especially men, a toy or some treats will win him over quickly. Soon enough, he’ll be leaning into you, craving affection, and relishing ear scratches and tummy rubs, his favorites! Fully housetrained and crate-trained, he’s the perfect addition to a family. Deacon would thrive with older children who can respect his boundaries. After life as a stray and in shelters, this boy is eager to experience family life. He’s looking for a forever home that will embrace his playful nature and continue building his confidence. If you’re ready for a loyal companion who will love you wholeheartedly, Deacon is waiting for you!
