About Mochi

Meet Mochi! This spirited nine-and-a-half-year-old Golden Retriever is currently in Amherst, MA. With a lightly golden coat, Mochi is a burst of enthusiasm, fueled by an enormous love for his people. At 75 pounds, this loyal and affectionate boy believes life is best when there's something fun on the agenda. Fetch? Absolutely! Swimming? He’s ready! Whether it's running, retrieving balls, or hopping into the car for an adventure, Mochi approaches all activities with impressive enthusiasm. Afterward, he happily relaxes at home alongside his favorite humans. Smart and eager to learn, Mochi has completed formal obedience training and knows basic commands as well as a crowd-pleasing roll over. He is house-trained, neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccinations. To help manage his weight, he receives a daily joint supplement and enjoys green beans with his meals. As an enthusiastic foodie, he loves to eat, perhaps even more than swimming! However, food requires thoughtful management. Mochi has a history of resource guarding, which has led to two minor bites when family members attempted to take his food. While these incidents weren't serious enough to require medical attention, he needs caregivers who can keep food secured and maintain a tidy environment, using established management strategies and positive reinforcement. His current guardian is ready to share effective approaches that have worked for years. Mochi is suitable for a family without young children but would thrive with respectful, school-age children and adults. He peacefully cohabitates with a cat but is selective with dogs, especially larger, assertive males. Therefore, sharing frequent space with another strong-personality dog is not ideal. A securely fenced yard will provide him with the space he needs for safe, independent play. Mochi also reacts strongly to animals on television. His excitement can be overwhelming, so it's best to have him exit the room when animals appear on screen. Understanding and accommodating his peculiar sensitivities will be important for his new family. For a thoughtful, active family prepared to manage his food boundaries, Mochi offers tremendous loyalty, companionship, laughter, and adventure. Could he be the golden adventure buddy you've been waiting to meet? What are you waiting for? Apply today!
