About Roo

Meet Roo! She's a lively five-and-a-half-year-old American Pitbull Terrier mix in Waynesville, NC, adorned with a striking black coat and charming white accents. Weighing in at 45 pounds, this medium-sized lady is a devoted companion with a flair for cuddling, eager to forge close bonds with her people once she feels safe. Roo might take a moment to warm up to new faces, but her affectionate nature makes it worthwhile. She enjoys staying close to her loved ones, whether it's riding shotgun on car adventures, playing tug, or curling up for cuddle time. With a medium energy level, she relishes daily walks, play, and routine. Roo has completed a basic obedience course and is proud to know commands like sit, stay, and lay down. Positive reinforcement supports her training journey well. Her past includes challenges, like a rope that had to be surgically removed from her neck, leaving a noticeable scar. While it’s unclear how her past experiences have impacted her, they can help explain her sensitivity in certain situations. Roo would thrive in an adult-only home, far from children, as she has shown signs of anxiety around them and unfamiliar people. Understanding her boundaries is crucial, so her new family should approach her with care and patience. Currently, she takes Prozac to help ease her anxiety. With a strong prey drive, Roo needs a home without cats or small animals and a securely fenced yard to roam safely. She’s social and playful with other dogs off-leash, enjoying outings to dog parks and daycare. However, she may become uneasy during on-leash encounters. Introducing her to another compatible dog should be done thoughtfully and ideally off-leash in a secure space. Roo is spayed, microchipped, house-trained, and up-to-date on vaccinations. She would benefit from an experienced, active adult family ready to provide consistent support and plenty of playtime. A calm environment where she can explore freely would suit her perfectly.
