Meet Blue! Blue is a lively five-year-old American Pitbull Terrier/Labrador Retriever mix living in Amherst, MA. His playful spirit is matched only by his big heart, and he sports a sleek black coat accented with charming white patches. This medium-sized, 55-pound buddy loves adventure, whether it’s racing alongside a bike or cooling off at the beach. Just as much, he enjoys curling up for forehead kisses or soaking up the sun after a fun play session. Blue excels at fetch and tug-of-war, but when playtime is over, you'll find him relaxing quietly by your side. A true scholar, Blue is smart, food-motivated, and knows commands such as sit, stay, and come. He is house-trained and crate-trained, thriving on routine. He enjoys walks and is most comfortable in a calm, low-traffic environment. However, he has faced challenges. Due to anxiety from past life changes, he can display territorial behavior around other dogs. While he peacefully shares space during structured walks, he also shows reactivity and has previously bitten dogs that approached too closely when he felt protective. Blue is not compatible with cats and can be selective with other dogs. Although he has bonded well with a child, he prefers a quieter environment free from the high energy of young kids. A fenced yard or regular outdoor access is essential for this energetic boy to run and explore. Currently, he's on a fish-based diet for his allergy needs and receives a yearly allergy shot to maintain his health. To ensure a smooth transition into a forever home, Blue's future family will receive support through a two-week boarding training program before he arrives. This will provide a solid foundation for continued training using positive reinforcement. Blue is loyal, goofy, and affectionate once he forms a bond.
