About Butternut
Butternut is a delightful big goofball, still figuring out what "home" truly means, and he's enjoying every moment of it. After being found as a stray in May, he spent his early weeks in foster care mastering stairs—terrifying at first, now a favorite venture—creating the perfect nest with his blanket, and even mastering the art of peeing like a tripod. With soulful puppy-dog eyes and an adorable squishy head, he loves to roll over into laps for some affection. Weighing in at 64.5 pounds, he's a sweet, cuddly marshmallow. Butternut interacts well with the resident dogs in his foster home, including three large breeds, but he prefers his own space during mealtimes. He’s curious about cats, though they've yet to meet directly. Initially a bit reserved around new people, he walks well but can be strong on the leash, especially when seeing other dogs or runners. He's also still gaining confidence with alone time and crate training. Fully house-trained and neutered, he's managing some ongoing allergies and needs a patient adopter. Butternut would thrive with a semi-active person or couple and would appreciate having a calm, well-mannered dog around to continue learning. He’s not looking to be the easiest pet but rather seeks someone who can guide him to become his best self. Ready to meet your new best friend? Apply now!
