Meet Gumbo, your goofy, big-hearted best bud! This 1-year-old Labrador mix was found as a stray in O’Fallon and, despite his recent return to the shelter due to his previous adopter's changing work schedule, his joyful personality remains intact. Gumbo is an affectionate lad who thrives on human interaction and loves attention—especially those coveted booty rubs. Gumbo is friendly and social, easily adjusting to life around other dogs and he excels at the dog park. He’s both crate trained and house trained, making him an excellent candidate for a seamless transition into a new home. However, he can become anxious in his kennel and gets overwhelmed during chaotic moments, like storms. Once he’s out, his upbeat energy shines through. When meeting new dogs, Gumbo can be a bit overzealous, often rushing in with excitement and needing guidance on social cues. Because of this, he would do best with a tolerant, confident dog who can help him learn appropriate play and communication skills. This young lad is still learning, but with patience and positive reinforcement, he'll be a loyal, loving companion.
