About Oscar

Meet Oscar! Oscar is a male Chihuahua and Whippet mix born on December 20, 2025. He weighs approximately 12 pounds and is currently living in a foster home. Oscar is a sweet, playful puppy with a moderate energy level. He can be timid when meeting new people and may initially hide or shake. Once given time to observe and feel safe, he becomes affectionate, cuddly, and playful. He loves being petted, picked up, and curling up on his foster’s lap. AT HOME: Oscar is crate trained and considers his crate his safe place. He may whine briefly when crated during the day, but he settles. At night, he sleeps quietly. He enjoys playing with toys, following his people around, relaxing on the couch, and occasionally stealing a shoe. Potty training is still a work in progress. FAVORITE THINGS: Stuffed toys, chew bones, couch cuddles, lap naps, and relaxing in his crate. With his long, delicate legs, Oscar has an adorable little prance that makes him look like a tiny show pony. OTHER DOGS: Oscar lives with a three-year-old male Pit Bull and does very well with him. They play and relax together. Oscar could happily live with another dog but could also do well as the only dog. CATS: Oscar lives with a cat and does very well. CHILDREN: Oscar lives with a respectful 13-year-old and enjoys asking him for attention and playtime. Because Oscar is small and initially timid, any children in his new home must understand how to respect his space and handle him gently. LEASH SKILLS: Oscar walks fairly well on leash but may pull or freeze when he feels unsure. Loud noises and passing cars can still frighten him. He also enjoys being carried, so his foster is helping him build confidence walking and exploring on his own. BEST FIT: Oscar needs patient adopters who understand that he may not be immediately confident in a new environment. He should be allowed to adjust at his own pace without being pressured. With consistency, gentle guidance, and positive experiences, he becomes braver each day and lets more of his affectionate, playful personality show. Oscar is looking for a family committed to continuing his potty training, leash work, puppy manners, and confidence building. He may need a little extra time in the beginning, but the relationship waiting on the other side is well worth it. All of our dogs are up to date on vaccinations, spayed or neutered, microchipped, and on preventatives.
