About Duke
Meet Duke — also known as Porkchop or Meatball. This handsome boy is a 2-year-old English Pit Bull who has faced challenges that would break many dogs. Yet, despite everything he’s been through, Duke still believes people are wonderful. After being hit by a car in April 2025, Duke underwent attempts to save his leg, but it eventually had to be amputated due to severe infection. Then, when his owner moved away, Duke was left tied up outside, prompting local police to contact the shelter. Remarkably, Duke remains a total people-lover. He’s dog-friendly, great with kids over 10, and even enjoys the company of cats. Duke is a big-hearted, goofy cuddlebug who can bring laughter to your life. He is house and kennel trained, and despite being a tripod, he loves to play chase, wrestle with other dogs, and go on short walks. He even jumps right up onto the couch! Duke snorts and grunts when you scratch him just right, and his personality is peppered with goofy antics. He adores bones, tug-of-war, and lounging outdoors, blissfully unaware of just how big he is. He’ll do best with older kids who can handle his exuberance, but he has been good supervised around younger ones. Duke doesn’t want sympathy; he wants a family to see beyond his missing leg.
