Meet Buttons. Buttons is a 4-year-old, 10-pound long-haired Dachshund sporting a mix of black and red that gives him a striking appearance. He has strong preferences, notably about velvet furniture, although he's never owned any. Currently a bit underweight, he's determined to correct that; mealtimes are approached with the seriousness of a tax attorney, but with much more optimism. This little guy falls in love deeply with his people, always wanting to be by your side, whether that's following you to the kitchen or securing his spot as your Permanent Lap Attachment. However, he struggles with being left alone and can get anxious when new sounds arise. Buttons will let you know if he's crated by himself, but with the comfort of your presence, he settles down beautifully. He's looking for someone patient and understanding who can reassure him about the world around him. Ideally, he'd thrive in a home where someone is around most of the day, whether from a work-from-home arrangement or retirement. He currently enjoys the company of another small dog and would do best with an easygoing canine friend. Older kids or an adult-only environment would suit him well, as he can be protective of his prized possessions, even if they are just tiny toys. Buttons is making strides in house training but may still mark occasionally; we expect this to improve after he's neutered. He isn't a fan of tooth brushing, but a little patience and some treats might sway him in time. Buttons isn't after perfection, just a constant presence and someone who recognizes that meaningful relationships take time to build. He is truly worth the investment.
