About Maya

Meet Maya, a loving girl around 2-3 years old and weighing about 60 lbs. She has seen hard times, wandering as a stray, and coming to us emaciated and exhausted, possibly after having puppies. When Maya arrived at the shelter, she was scared but still approachable, quickly winning the hearts of everyone she met. Now, Maya is finding out what it means to be a cherished companion. Though she can be shy initially, she quickly warms up once she feels safe. Her affection is boundless; expect plenty of cuddles and kisses as she follows you everywhere. Maya is a true Velcro dog. She’s smart and loves learning new things. She already knows commands like sit and come, and she enjoys treat-based training. While she is getting better at handling new experiences, she does need a patient family who understands that she may get nervous, especially on walks. She doesn’t mind being left alone for reasonable periods but would thrive with someone working from home to help build her confidence. Maya gets along well with teenagers and seems open to respectful children. Her encounters with other dogs have gone well, but slow introductions are key. She is house trained and currently requires a securely fenced yard to keep her safe, as she can be strong and has been known to break leads. Maya’s journey to a stable and loving home has just begun, and she’s ready to find her perfect person.
