Meet Declan! He's been in our care for over three years after being rescued from a kill shelter. Upon arrival, we discovered that trauma had led to the loss of his left eye, likely due to a bullet or blunt force. Initially, Declan was aggressive due to inadequate training as a guard dog, but with patience and time, he has made significant progress. Now, he can be gradually introduced to new people by his trusted handlers, having built strong bonds with those who earn his trust. Declan does best with a single person, particularly a confident woman, who appreciates his protective nature. He prefers an indoor-outdoor lifestyle, needing a secure area where he can patrol and feel safe. Because of his strength and past experiences, he should not be in a situation where he might encounter unfamiliar people or animals. While he can walk alongside other dogs, he is not ready to share his space or human family with any other pets. Adopting Declan requires a calm, committed individual who is willing to invest time in establishing trust through multiple visits.
