About Smurf
Smurf is a charming 2-year-old Shih Tzu residing in Wake Forest, NC. This gentle boy is available for adoption on-site only on Fridays and Saturdays. Underneath his matted coat, you'll find soulful brown eyes filled with trust. He’s still learning that people can be kind, so approach him slowly and softly, allowing him to warm up to you. Show him your hands before reaching out for pets, and he’ll delight in gentle head rubs and belly scratches. As a quiet houseguest, he hasn’t barked at all during his foster care and appears to be house trained when on a schedule. He walks beautifully on a harness and enjoys outdoor adventures, but he needs a securely fenced yard or careful management around open doors while he builds trust. Loud noises do startle him, so a calm and patient home would be ideal. Smurf gets along well with other small dogs but may do best as an only dog or with a laid-back companion who will let him adjust at his own pace. Although he’s not easily impressed by treats, he loves hot dogs and chicken jerky. With time and kindness, Smurf is blossoming, showing glimpses of happiness every day.
