Meet Mae. This lovable girl was rescued during a storm in Chicago and seems to have been a mother at some point. While her exact breed and age remain a mystery, she’s likely a Mastiff/Shar-Pei mix around 1 to 2 years old. Mae has a big personality to match her large frame, with a head that looks comically oversized and a playful demeanor that resembles an oversized toddler. She loves people and isn’t shy about giving out kisses. Although she can get a bit mouthy when excited, this spirited behavior is all about fun, never aggression. While she enjoys the company of other dogs, she prefers to keep her distance from cats and birds. Kids are her favorite, but watch out; she might unintentionally knock over younger ones in her enthusiasm. Ideally, she'd do best with older children or those who understand playful antics. Mae rides well in the car, is learning her leash manners, and does well in a kennel. Just keep food out of reach unless you’re eager to share. A shelter volunteer described Mae perfectly: 'Klutzy with a developing brain.' She’s got a tendency to trip over her own feet and once was so excited about belly rubs that she rolled off the couch!
