Charlie just turned 3 years old, a birthday she spent once again behind the shelter walls she's called home for almost a year and a half. She's a lovely Rottweiler/Retriever mix with the softest eyes and a gentle soul, but you’ll need to earn her trust. Charlie struggles with meeting new people—the world hasn’t always been kind to her. If someone could simply give her a few chances, visiting a couple of times and letting her heart unfold at her own pace, they would find a fiercely loyal and loving companion beneath her initial fear. Once she feels secure, she's pure sunshine—snuggly, kiss-giving, and a tail-wagging angel who wants to follow you everywhere. Charlie walks beautifully on a leash, rides calmly in the car, and enjoys running around the yard before settling into a cozy bed or pile of blankets. She doesn't care much for toys; her main desires are love, safety, and for someone to finally stay. Charlie has done well with some dogs, but she prefers to take her time getting comfortable with both people and other pets. She would thrive in a calm, low-traffic home without young kids or cats. She’s a favorite among staff and volunteers for a reason; they’ve seen the real Charlie—the dog who greets with kisses, melts into laps, and adores her humans. She’s waiting for the right person to see past her nervousness and recognize what a once-in-a-lifetime companion she truly is. Perhaps that person is you.
