Meet Dixie, a tiny girl with a huge spirit and the kind of personality that wins hearts fast. She is spunky, playful, charming, and full of puppy joy. From her happy little wiggles to her sweet sideways sit, Dixie has a way of making everyone around her smile. Dixie is a special-needs puppy, but her needs are only one part of who she is. We believe she was either born with her condition or experienced trauma during or shortly after birth, which affects her mobility and bladder control. She has a wobbly walk, an adorable sideways sit, and no bladder control, so she will need to wear diapers. With the right adopter, these needs are manageable, and they do not take away from the happy, lovable puppy she is. What stands out most about Dixie is not her special needs it is her joy, charm, curiosity, and love for life. She is ready for a home that will celebrate her exactly as she is and give her the chance to grow, play, and be loved. We are currently trying acupuncture to see whether it may improve her function, especially with her bladder. We are hopeful it may make a positive difference, and we will continue giving Dixie every opportunity to thrive. Dixie is looking for a patient, loving adopter who can look beyond her special needs and see the incredible little dog she already is. If you have room in your heart for a spirited puppy who may need extra care but gives back endless love, Dixie would love to meet you. All our dogs are current on vaccinations which include Rabies, Distemper/Parvo and Bordetella. They are spayed and or neutered, have been fecal tested and heartworm tested, and had a dental cleaning if necessary. They are all on heartworm and flea/tick preventative as needed in rescue. They all will have a microchip that will be registered in the adopter's name and is good for a lifetime with no additional fees. The adoption process is an application, a vet reference, a home inspection, and a lifetime contract. The requested adoption donation for all our dogs is $400. We do not REQUIRE a fenced in yard (some dogs do not require a fence, if they can walk well on harness and leash. This is decided by what is best for each dog individually.) We are willing to adopt to out-of-state applicants, but you must travel to the foster home location of your dog which is in Omaha or within a 90-minute drive from the Omaha area to meet and travel home with your dog. We do not transport or ship dogs. If you are interested in adding this beautiful baby to your loving family, please visit our website and fill out an adoption application at http://www.nebraskadachshundrescue.org/adoptapp.htm The adoption fee is $400.
