She has a history of becoming overstimulated during play and interactions, which can lead to rough play behaviors such as scratching or biting when her excitement levels get too high. In a previous home, this behavior resulted in scratches and bites to her owner. Her adopters should be prepared to help her channel her energy appropriately through plenty of enrichment, structured play, and consistent boundaries, as these behaviors are likely to continue if they are unintentionally reinforced or if her physical and mental needs are not met. Emmylou will do best in a home with children ages 12 and older who can understand and respect her body language. Children should be coached to interact with her using wand toys rather than their hands and to allow Emmylou to initiate affection and "self-pet" by approaching them on her own terms. Because she thrives on activity, Emmylou will need abundant enrichment, including a variety of toys, multiple cat trees and climbing opportunities, cat furniture, and other appropriate outlets for her energy. She would especially benefit from a spacious living environment or access to a secure catio where she can safely explore and stay engaged.
