AvailableAbout Johnny Cash
Some dogs spend their lives being noticed. Johnny Cash spent much of his waiting. This handsome 2-year-old, 52-pound Sheltie/Heeler mix was one of the longest residents at a rural Texas shelter before Bluey's Hope stepped in and gave him the second chance he deserved. Honestly, we still can't understand how he was overlooked for so long. The first time I met Johnny Cash, he won me over within minutes. Despite spending so much of his life in a kennel, he immediately leaned into affection, happily accepted snuggles, and showed us exactly what a good dog he is. There isn't a mean bone in this boy's body. -2 years old -52 lbs -Neutered -Dog friendly - Walks nicely on leash - Good with horses - Not reactive to cattle - Smart, loyal, and eager to bond Johnny Cash isn't a "project dog." He's simply a dog who has spent too much time without a home of his own. New environments can make him a little unsure at first, but once he realizes he's safe, his true personality shines. And what a personality it is. He's playful and adventurous, loves being outdoors, enjoys long walks, and wants to be part of whatever his people are doing. But don't let that fool you, he also has a softer side and is perfectly happy curling up next to you for some quality couch time. Like many herding breeds, Johnny Cash is intelligent, observant, and thrives when he has both a person to love and a purpose in life. We've also learned that Johnny Cash appears to have some anxiety surrounding vehicles, likely stemming from past experiences. While he's done very well on multiple car rides since arriving in North Carolina, we recommend that he travel safely secured in a crate or kennel. With patience and consistency, we believe his confidence will continue to grow. Because of his prey drive: - No cats - No free-ranging chickens What Johnny Cash needs most isn't training or fixing, it's belonging. After spending most of his young life waiting for someone to choose him, he's more than ready for a family of his own. Someone who will look past the shelter stress, see the incredible dog underneath, and finally give him the stability and love he's always deserved. Could that person be you? Apply to adopt Johnny Cash today and help him write the next chapter of his story. https://blueysh4h.org/heeler-adoption-application-form/
