Before coming to rescue, he lived in a hoarding type situation where he received very little socialization and was not exposed to the normal sights, sounds, and experiences that most dogs encounter throughout their lives. When Mulligan first arrived, he spent two full days hiding under a table before he felt safe enough to venture out. While he has made progress, the world is still a scary place for him. Mulligan is not the type of dog who will run up to strangers looking for attention. He is fearful of unfamiliar people and situations and has bitten when he felt threatened or scared. Because of this, he is looking for a very specific home that understands fearful dogs and is willing to earn his trust rather than expect it immediately. He does not walk on a leash and currently requires a securely fenced yard for potty breaks and exercise. While he was friendly with veterinary staff during his neuter appointment, he has also reacted negatively to some new people he has met, so adopters should expect his comfort level to vary depending on the situation. Mulligan is looking for: - A quiet home - No young children - A securely fenced yard - Patient adopters willing to move at his pace - Someone who understands that trust is earned, not demanded This little guy may never be everyones best friend, and thats okay. What Mulligan needs is someone who will appreciate him for who he is, respect his boundaries, and provide him with the safety and stability hes never had before. If youre experienced with shy or fearful dogs and are looking for a dog who simply needs someone in his corner, Mulligan may be worth meeting. Approved applications required to adopt! *If you choose to adopt (before all vetting is complete) and use your own vet rather than our local Snip Clinic for these services, you do so at your own expense and it will not reduce the adoption fee. Adoption fees are NON NEGOTIABLE. 1.) All dogs are adopted to the best possible match and calling or emailing the rescue will not speed up the process or liken your chances of being chosen. Please DO NOT CALL the rescue unless you have been specifically given the phone number by one of the staff. 2.) You will be notified by the adoption coordinator if your application is approved. This will happen very quickly, usually the same or next day. (unless you apply on a weekend and vet records can not be verified in which case it will be the next day the vet is open.) If you do not hear from us, you were not approved. There will be no explanation or argument. 3.) Adoptions are set up by appointment only. We do not have hours of operation. DO NOT show up expecting to see the dogs. We are not a municipal shelter- we are a rescue. 4.) If the dog is posted as Available on Petfinder, it is available but may have pending applications and meet and greets set up. 5.) If you are not ready to immediately meet the dog you are applying for, please do not apply- we are too busy for window shoppers! Every dog is available to be taken home with you at the time of the meet and greet. 6.) We recommend you bring a carrier with you to transport the dog home as some can get carsick. Adult dogs and most puppies over 6 months of age will require a slip lead- not a harness, Not a flat collar and leash but a SLIP LEAD that does not need to be fitted and is the only approved method of safe restraint for fearful and flight risk dogs. 7.)
