About Bear

Meet Bear! At over 100 pounds, Bear truly lives up to his name, but don't let his size fool you. This gentle giant is known for his sweet nature, loving personality, and easygoing attitude with people of all ages. Bear is 6 or 7-years old with a unique look. While he reportedly has some Great Pyrenees in him, his beautiful black coat once gave him more of a fluffy Newfoundland appearance before he recently received a much-needed shave. Bear's former family described him as affectionate, friendly with children, playful around other dogs, and a great passenger in the car. Unfortunately, Bear's story hasn't been an easy one. Over the years, he has been passed between multiple family members, and no one was able to provide him with the permanent home he deserves. Bear arrived with significant matting that was causing discomfort, so he has since been shaved and is feeling much better. Bear also has some broken teeth from a past attempt to escape a crate, which causes his adorable tongue to hang out much of the time. Despite these challenges, Bear continues to be a happy, social dog who enjoys spending time with people. Bear is looking for a home that will finally give him the stability, care, and love he has always deserved. In return, he'll offer plenty of affection, companionship, and giant-bear hugs. If you're searching for a loyal best friend with a heart as big as he is, Bear may be your perfect match. Visit STAF.org for more information on our adoption process and our adoption application. *** Email adoptadog@STAF.org for next steps! *** All of our animals are spayed/neutered and current on shots. We do not do same-day adoptions. You will be asked to return for at least one follow-up visit, then take the dog home for a trial period before officially adopting. You must be 21 years or older to adopt from STAF. Due in part to increasing coyote activity/incidents in the area and the difficulty of predicting how a dog will respond to invisible fence training, we can not adopt to homes with invisible fences. We do request vet and personal references. We can facilitate adoptions within a 30-mile radius of our Cincinnati-based shelter.
