About Slate
Meet Slate! Don’t be fooled by her tiny frame—Slate’s full of attitude and heart. This senior Chihuahua, almost 9 years old, is looking for a home where she can finally settle in and feel safe. Slate’s been through a lot: her previous owner couldn’t keep up with her care, and now she’s hoping for stability and gentle company. Slate is nearly finished with the Puppies for Parole program and will graduate on June 12th, showing she’s learned a thing or two along the way. She’s very comfortable with potty pads and will happily go outside when needed. Slate prefers a calm home and feels at ease with older children, but the commotion of little ones tends to make her anxious. Like many older dogs, Slate has her quirks—she deals with luxating patellas in both back legs, has some allergies, and gets nervous during storms or fireworks. Loud weather sends her seeking out a cozy corner and a comforting presence. What Slate wants now is comfort, not chaos. She’s the kind of companion who would rather be on your lap than out on a noisy adventure. A loving, patient person will bring out the best in this sweet girl. Slate is ready for her soft landing. Questions about Slate
What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?
Chihuahuas like Slate do well in quiet, indoor environments with attentive owners. They thrive in homes where they can feel safe and close to their people, making apartments or small homes a good fit as long as there's lots of companionship.
How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?
Slate's Chihuahua breed only needs minimal outdoor space for short walks and potty breaks. A secure yard is a plus, but it's not essential as long as Slate gets out for some light exercise each day.
Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?
Chihuahuas are generally best in homes with older children who understand their small size and respect their boundaries. Slate, in particular, is happiest with older kids, as younger children can make her nervous.
