Daffodil
AvailableDaffodil is a young, medium-sized female Boxer/mixed breed located in San Jose, CA. She has not yet been spayed. Her personality has shifted sharply since initial intake due to the kennel environment, so she requires an adopter who understands behavioral changes that can arise in stressful, shelter settings.
About Daffodil
Daffodil entered the shelter as a playful, social, and interactive dog, particularly outside the kennel. She readily approached staff, loved to play, and got along well with other dogs during group play sessions. Originally, she responded well to handlers and leash work, showing flexibility and high energy, often engaging in healthy, reciprocal play. Over time, though, the stresses of the kennel environment have caused her behavior to change significantly. She now exhibits frustration and intense barrier reactivity—charging, barking, jumping, and body-slamming the kennel door whenever someone approaches. Her behavior has become even more challenging out of the kennel, as she struggles with impulse control, directed movement, and may attempt to redirect her frustration toward handlers by biting at hands or equipment during high-arousal moments. Traditional calming efforts are largely ineffective once she is overstimulated. The escalation in her behavior points to kennel-induced stress, and her current environment has caused a rapid decline in her emotional stability. Because of her safety risks and urgent behavioral needs, Daffodil is only available for direct adoption or rescue commitment—no fostering—and her time is running out. She needs an experienced adopter or rescue who understands high-drive, under-socialized dogs and can offer a structured, low-stress environment outside of the shelter.
