Dovey
AvailableDovey is a senior, large, female mixed breed with Pit Bull Terrier and Boxer roots who is currently in Santa Cruz, CA. She is spayed and fully house trained, and her affectionate personality makes her a great fit for someone wanting a loving companion.
About Dovey
Dovey lives up to her affectionate name and is hoping for a soft lap and a quiet home where she can keep someone company. In her foster home, she spends her days with a senior dog and two adults, filling the house with her goofy antics and gentle affection. The morning starts with dog kisses and cheerful greetings, and even after a full day alone in the house, Dovey still welcomes her people home with an enthusiastic hello before settling in for couch snuggles. She’s an 11-year-old who sometimes thinks she’s still a puppy—fetch and stuffies light her up, and she can be strong on leash, especially if she spots a squirrel. But she is also content with slow walks, midday naps, and sunbathing in the yard. Dovey is completely potty trained and rides well in the car. She’s not a fan of confined spaces or being closed off behind gates or doors—she prefers to explore and relax where she pleases. With other dogs, she can be selective, enjoying some but not all, which isn’t uncommon for seniors. Any resident dog should meet Dovey in advance, and high-traffic dog environments like parks and beaches aren’t her thing. Her adoption fee is fully sponsored by the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation’s Leave No One Behind fund, and comes with a $200 training voucher to help start your relationship off right. Shelter meet-and-greets take place before 4:30pm in Santa Cruz. Click apply to start the adoption process.
