About Skipper

Meet Skipper, a goofy, high-spirited Labrador Retriever mix puppy. He's only about four months old but already weighs 30 lbs and is growing fast—expect him to be a large adult dog. Skipper came from a rough beginning but it hasn't dampened his joy for life or his easy-going attitude. Every day, he brings a rush of energy and finds fun in just about anything: socks, shoes, toilet paper rolls—nothing is safe. He treats every new toy like it's the best one ever invented. Skipper gets along well with other dogs and people. He delights in rambunctious play with his foster sister and doesn't shy away from roughhousing. He’s mouthy while teething, so he needs guidance from both people and dogs who can handle his bounds of puppy excitement. Homes with tolerant pets and folks willing to keep items off the floor will be a good fit for him. In foster care, Skipper has lived with a senior, dog-savvy cat. He mostly ignores her unless he gets overexcited, so supervision and patient coaching are musts if there are cats at home. Play, not prey, is his instinct. Skipper is already crate trained and working steadily on his house training, signaling when he needs to go out—though he will sometimes confuse his signals. Overnight, he typically makes it 6-8 hours in his crate without incident. Eager to please, Skipper picks up commands like sit, leave it, drop it, off, crate, and even ‘ouch’ for his puppy mouthing. Leash skills and car rides are works in progress, but he’s bright and motivated by treats. Even nail trims aren’t a problem (as long as his mouth is busy!). Skipper enjoys digging in the yard and is curious about water but respects pool edges. After a full day, he winds down into a snuggly, affectionate pup ready for cuddles and belly rubs. Skipper needs a family willing to commit to continued training and who can match his playfulness and affection. He’s in Concord, CA and comes with a sponsored adoption fee.
