About Dixie

Dixie started out with quite a history—part of a large litter that faced a rough beginning in Texas, overcoming a parvo outbreak and the loss of her siblings. Now about 5 months old, Dixie's personality blends gentle shyness with growing curiosity. She hangs back when she first meets someone, but once she realizes things are safe, her playful, sweet side shows through. Day by day, she’s learning people are kind and the world has more fun than fear. Crate training has gone well, and Dixie sleeps soundly through the night. She’s quietly making strides with potty training, learning to ring bells and go on command, and she’s becoming confident enough to use a doggie door after some initial reservations. Leash walks are easygoing—she’s attentive, with just a hint of puppy distraction around bunnies. Dixie feels most comfortable with another dog around, looking to them for cues and learning routines. Watching her mimic her foster siblings’ manners and finding the coolest spot to nap has been both endearing and funny to see. She’s shown no resource guarding, loves soft treats, and has a specific way of working through chews, always leaving the beef behind for her foster brother. Mealtimes are slow but she’s started to ask for more food when hungry, a small but meaningful sign she’s growing more comfortable. Car rides used to intimidate her, but following patient guidance and her foster siblings’ lead, she now hops in and out without fuss and settles quietly for the trip. Dixie doesn’t get herself into trouble, enjoys her doggie stuffies, and keeps a gentle presence around the home. She’s ready for a patient adopter who will give her the time and support she needs to become the confident, loving companion she’s meant to be. Ready to meet your new best friend? Apply now!
