About Iris

Iris is a 3.5-year-old shepherd/black mouth cur mix who was pulled from a high-intake Texas shelter. She’s the last of her siblings still searching for a family. Currently in a foster home in Spring, TX, Iris is compact at 47 pounds and has her vaccinations, chip, and is spayed. Iris bonds deeply with her inner circle—her foster, their partner, and her backup foster—but new people need to give her time and patience. Once Iris lets her guard down, she’s playful, goofy, and extremely affectionate. She thrives best in an adult-only, quieter home, especially with someone who works from home or has a slower lifestyle. Busy city streets and unpredictable environments are tough for her. She’s dog-selective and requires thoughtful introductions, but does play, wrestle, and relax with select canine friends once she feels comfortable. Her energy level is moderate—she enjoys walks and tennis ball fetch but can also nap at your feet or curl up on the couch for hours. Iris is fully house trained and crate trained; she sees her crate as a safe place, and free roams without destructiveness in the right setup. Iris can show food and resource guarding around other dogs, so she needs separate feeding arrangements if there are other pets. She understands basic commands, loves belly rubs, and is deeply loyal once trust is built. She’s not simple, but she’s not high-maintenance either: Iris rewards patience a hundred times over for those willing to earn her trust and respect her boundaries. Her best chance comes with an adopter who truly loves dogs for who they are, and enjoys the process of building trust. Click apply and let the tail-wagging begin!
