About Emily

Meet Emily, a vibrant one and a half year-old Belgian Malinois and Labrador Retriever mix whose coat is a glossy, beautiful black that catches the light to reveal a gorgeous hint of brown underneath. She originally came to us from a local shelter that felt she just needed a little more exposure to find her perfect match, and she has been absolutely shining ever since. Emily boasts a stellar social resume, proving herself to be incredibly dog friendly, people friendly, and exceptionally cat friendly. She is currently thriving in a foster home alongside multiple dogs and cats, coexisting beautifully with them all. Though there was a brief, typical adjustment period at the start while the resident dogs established the pack's pecking order, things have completely settled down, and the entire crew now gets along wonderfully. This gorgeous girl has plenty of that classic young Malinois energy, so she will thrive best in a home with a securely fenced yard that offers lots of room to run, zoom, and play. Having some furry friends to keep her company and match her play style would be a wonderful bonus. While Emily hasn't been directly tested around small children, she absolutely craves affection from anyone she meets and is incredibly welcoming. Because of her high energy levels, we think she would do best with older children rather than toddlers, whom she might accidentally knock over during playtime. When it comes to manners, Emily is already fully house trained! She is still working on perfecting her leash training, but she is definitely not terrible and is well on her way to becoming a star student with just a little continued guidance. Future adopters should definitely plan on keeping her well-supplied in durable toys! Emily absolutely loves her toys, but she also loves to completely destroy them. Don't be surprised if you occasionally stumble across the fluffy remnants of a plushie that bit the dust at the paws and jaws of Miss Emily-keeping a steady rotation of heavy-duty chew toys on hand will be the secret to her success. If you are looking for an intelligent, affectionate, and highly social companion to complete your pack, Emily is ready and waiting. PLEASE READ BELOW: If you are interested in meeting and/or adopting, the first step is to complete an application and read all of our FAQs: https://www.takepawsrescue.org/adopt Please note: Information to determine if you might be a match for one of our animals can only be found on our application. *An inquiry, questions or introduction through Petfinder is NOT an application* All known details about our animals are posted on their profile and updated daily. Other info will be discussed in detail with the foster during the application review process. Due to the high volume of introductions/questions received we ask you to submit an application (that application can be used for any dog with Take Paws Rescue). The adoption fee for adult dogs covers age appropriate vaccinations, microchip, spay/neuter if not yet performed, heartworm test & appropriate heartworm treatment by the rescue's vet. All dogs in our care are also kept up-to-date on HW/Flea Prevention. For more on this, or for additional information, including the adoption process and our adoption fee scale for all our adoptable pets (including an explanation about Benefactor Dogs), please see our FAQs page: https://www.takepawsrescue.org/faq Any breed labels used by Take Paws Rescue, its employees/volunteers, or on vet records provided cannot be guaranteed. Breed labels are given based on information obtained during intake and/or best guesses based on appearance and/or temperament of the dogs and Take Paws Rescue gives no assurance to the accuracy of these labels. Labels are necessary for postings to many animal networking sites, such as our website, Chewy, Pet Finder, and others. These are in no way a guarantee. Additionally, exact age and potential size cannot be guaranteed. ***Take Paws Rescue, based in New Orleans, saves dogs from high-kill shelters across the South, owner surrenders, and discarded dogs with uncertain futures.
