About Old Man McGucket

Meet Old Man McGucket, a 9-year-old Plott Hound mix with a calm spirit and a knack for stealing hearts. Tall, lanky, and weighing in at about 68 pounds, he blends easygoing charm with classic hound quirks—curious, mildly stubborn, and always gentle. He settles in quickly, warms to new people, and is friendly with everyone—dogs, kids, and guests. True to hound tradition, he’s ready to amble over for a scratch when the mood strikes, and otherwise spends much of his time napping, exploring the yard, or chatting up squirrels and neighbor pups with his distinct voice. Because he tends to bark when there’s movement outside or a knock at the door, he’s happiest in a home without shared walls. Old Man McGucket is fully house trained but, owing to his age, needs frequent bathroom breaks and may have accidents if not let out in time. A secure, fenced yard is ideal. Indoors, he’s a relaxed companion but can’t resist a countertop snack if left within reach, and he’s persistent when it comes to testing baby gates. Crate training (with treats!) works well, and he travels best buckled or safely crated—otherwise, he’ll try to commandeer the passenger seat. McGucket does have some ongoing medical needs that require regular attention. He’s living with an enlarged spleen and a small, irregular liver, both of which need careful monitoring, and he takes medication for his liver. Cancer has been ruled out, but consistent vet follow-up matters most. Despite this, he’s happy and steady—content to soak up soft beds, occasional affection, and quiet moments with his people. He does well with other animals or on his own, and his slow walks and calm presence make him an excellent companion for a peaceful household. If you’re looking for a soulful friend for quiet days, Old Man McGucket might be your perfect match. As a fun fact, McGucket is a Pisces—known for their gentle and affectionate nature.
