Sugar and spice and everything nice, that's what Poppy is made of!!! Yes, this precious four-year-old female Golden Retriever is quite the beauty with a yen to learn and is treat motivated to do so. Poppy came into GREAT Rescue from a very harsh and difficult background but lucky for her, GREAT found a wonderful home and Mom who was willing, motivated and able to spend the time to bring Poppy full circle to being an amazing Golden Girl. Sadly, that Mom is now working out of the home and with the health issues presented by other family members, they feel it would be best for Poppy to join a family who has one person home all day. Because of her training, she is very attached to women so an all-female home or a home with an older, quiet and gentle couple is a must along with another well-mannered adult Golden Retriever or Lab as a companion. Poppy is very well mannered in the home and is house trained but due to her background, she is not happy at all in a crate. She enjoys running through puddles, fetching sticks and balls and is very treat motivated. She is frightened of thunderstorms and loud noises and should be on medication to help with her anxiety to get through these Florida summers and fireworks. She enjoys long daily walks, car rides, seeing children, treats and playing with other dogs. She is a fast learner and enjoys being trained. Her mom says she might be good as a therapy or service dog too. Poppy knows commands such as sit, stay, leave it, go get it, break, spin, wait, lay down, roll over, and go get your toy. She is a fun, sweet, loving dog to the human she loves, loves exploring and chasing lizards. She is not a snuggler but loves being near the people she loves. As you can see from her gorgeous picture, Poppy has earned her Canine Good Citizen award and she's looking very proud and beautiful displaying that well-earned ribbon. Poppy just turned four years old, is current on all vaccines, heartworm negative, spayed, weighs 68 lbs. and microchipped. She will most likely benefit from anxiety meds during her transition until she is settled and feeling comfortable. Her new family should be a single woman, and or an all female household with a large, friendly, playful dog as a companion, a fully fenced, secure yard, someone who lives in the Jacksonville/St. Augustine area for any additional Vetting or Training that may be needed during her transition, someone who can walk her daily, is a stay-at-home lady or works from home and no children under 8. Please be considerate and do not expect exceptions to be made to these criteria. If you feel you are the fortunate person to make Poppy your very own, please go to www.greatrescue.org to complete an application. Questions?
