About Cayenne
Cayenne is a very reserved and timid Jack Russell Terrier mix who needs an experienced adopter. She's spent some time on her own and is relearning the basics of being a family dog. Right now, she's most comfortable with structure—she wears a drag leash for gentle management or is kept in a kennel as she gets used to the home environment. She weighs about 14 pounds, is around 2 years old, and has a medium-length coat with a unique mix of white, merle, and red-orange colors. She’s recently started walking on leash, but it’s a work in progress. Cayenne is fully vetted, spayed, and her vaccines are current. It will likely take several patient meet-and-greets before Cayenne is comfortable enough to be petted or picked up. She’s currently fostered in Round Rock, TX and really needs another dog (or two) in the household for companionship and confidence. Cayenne does best with a fully fenced, secure yard—apartments aren’t a good fit. Her history is mostly a mystery, aside from arriving from South Texas with a litter of puppies in tow. Fun fact: her birthday makes her a Taurus, known for quiet strength and cautious loyalty. Click apply to start the adoption process.

Questions about Cayenne
What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?
Jack Russell Terriers like Cayenne do best in single-family homes with secure, fenced-in yards where they can safely explore. Apartment living is usually too restrictive for their energy and need for outdoor time.
How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?
Cayenne and her breed mix appreciate a reasonably sized, fully fenced yard to run and play. A secure outdoor area is critical, as Jack Russell Terriers are curious and active.
Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?
Jack Russell Terriers can be suitable for families with children, especially when the dog is well-socialized. Because Cayenne is shy and needs time to build trust, she would do best in a calm home that respects her pace.
