About Reuben

Meet Reuben, sometimes called RooRoo, Ruby, or Rue—he’ll come running to any one of them. Reuben is a five-year-old neutered male who nearly starved before being rescued as a stray; he was hungry and underweight but quick to trust people. He’s come a long way since then, and you won’t find another dog more loyal or eager to be part of a family. Reuben gets along well with other dogs and cats, and every indication suggests his gentle, social nature will extend to children, though he hasn’t been tested just yet. He’s fully housetrained and settles in more every day in his foster home. Crate training has been a challenge for Reuben—he feels anxious in confined spaces—but he’s working hard and getting better all the time. Food and new toys are treasures for him, and he can be a little protective around other pets during mealtimes, but he’s already showing progress with consistent guidance. Despite being treated for heartworms, Reuben’s spirits remain high and his energy boundless. He’s a survivor, still soft around people, and all he really wants is a home where he’s safe, loved, and finally able to keep all the toys for himself. If you’re ready to give a special dog a fresh start, Reuben’s waiting. Every animal deserves a happy ending. This one starts with you.
