About Katniss

Katniss is a fluffy, fox-faced girl with a gentle soul and an endearing, permanent smile. At just over 2 years old, she weighs about 65 pounds and carries that classic, soft Golden Retriever/Great Pyrenees mix look—medium coat, golden and cream fur, and an unmistakable warmth in her eyes. She came into rescue with her brother, Peeta, after being abandoned, so trust hasn’t come easy. Katniss started out timid, wary of the world and slow to accept affection, but she’s learning: patient people, treats, and kind dogs are worth believing in. Her shy nature surfaces around strangers, but with gradual introductions and time to observe, she starts showing her silly, playful side. Once she knows you’re safe, she absolutely melts for a gentle ear scratch or loving touch. One thing to know—Katniss adores other dogs. Her confidence blossoms with canine company, so another balanced dog in the home will help her settle and continue to grow. Toys make her happy, and there’s a wiggly goofiness that comes out when she’s comfortable. Katniss rides smoothly in cars, is house trained, and is motivated by food (a plus for training). She’s still working on handling the chaos of the outside world, and her adopter must understand confidence comes with patience, slow progress, and a gentle hand—never force. Because of her size and sensitive temperament, Katniss is best suited for a calm home with older, respectful children (10+). If you’ve got experience with shy dogs and want the joy of watching a transformation, Katniss will repay you with devotion. In Houston, TX, she’s ready for her next chapter.
