Sophia is still working very hard on learning how to trust. After spending so much of her life in an environment where she could not rely on people for comfort or safety, learning to let her guard down is a slow and incredibly meaningful process. While Sophia is the most reserved of the Golden Girls, we are beginning to see small but beautiful glimpses of her personality emerge. As she becomes more comfortable, she has started experimenting with toys and occasionally joins in very short bursts of playful interaction with the other dogs. The moments when Sophia chooses connection are truly magical because they are so hard-earned. Every little step forward represents tremendous growth for this sweet girl. Sophia would likely do best in a calm, patient home with another semi-independent, confident dog who can quietly help show her the ropes while respecting her need for space and slower pace. A dog companion who enjoys occasional short play sessions but is otherwise calm and steady would likely help Sophia feel more secure. At this time, we do not yet have an anticipated go-home date for Sophia as we continue helping her build confidence and learn that the world can be safe. However, we hope to soon begin the process of meet-and-treat appointments with prospective adopters as we search for the right fit for her unique needs. Sophia will likely require many visits before she is able to go home.
