About Shire

If interested, please contact the foster home. Petfinder Profiles doesn’t always work. “The road goes ever on and on, down from the door where it began. Now far ahead the road has gone, and I must follow, if I can.” Shire has devoted the last few months to raising her little Shirelings, and now that they've all found homes she's ready to travel her own path! She's been an absolute gem of a houseguest here: great in her crate, no issues with housetraining, and definite golden retriever vibes when it comes to making new friends. Her herdy side does surface at times around traffic or when she spots a chipmunk, but overall she has lacked the intensity common to the breed and would be an excellent addition for an active family looking for fun in a more easygoing package. Medium energy for a cattle dog, Shire has fun running in the yard or going on a long walk to catch up on all the interesting smells. She's super food motivated and eager to work with people, so if you're interested in dog sports she'd be a great candidate for rally or scent sports like happy ratters and nosework. She's a really fun girl and craves connection, be that through training or shared adventures! She does well hanging out alone in her crate, but if she's loose she's a bit of a shadow: she loves attention and soaks up all the pets. Trying to go somewhere alone? Of course you are, and she's going with you! Shire has done very well meeting adults and children alike: she's never met a stranger. She is working on manners and has a tendency to jump up to say hi, so she has potential to knock over hobbit-sized kids. She does great coexisting around other respectful dogs, and enjoys playing with those who are willing to engage with her. Shire has not been around cats but does get pretty alert around small animals, so any homes with cats would need a solid integration plan and need to be close enough for us to visit for a cat test. Shire is around 40lbs and approximately 2-3 years old. She does have an old injury to one of her front legs which has been assessed by a vet (the xray will be included in her adoption paperwork): it is a fully healed transverse fracture, and while her gait is a little off the leg is sound. She has no restrictions and can fully enjoy exercise and normal activity! She is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines and preventatives.
