Parkay is one of those dogs who clearly wants to trust people but is still figuring out how to feel safe enough to fully let his guard down. The shelter has been overwhelming for him at times, especially in the kennel environment where all the noise and activity can make him feel stressed and reactive. Once he gets outside and away from the chaos, though, a much softer dog starts to emerge. Staff found that he walks nicely on leash, checks in often for reassurance, knows “sit,” and happily accepts treats, neck scratches, and quiet affection when given time to settle. He seems especially responsive to calm, patient handling and appears to blossom when he realizes nobody is asking too much from him too quickly. Parkay feels like the kind of dog who is going to need someone willing to meet him where he is and let confidence build naturally. Beneath the uncertainty is an intelligent, observant dog who seems eager to connect once he feels secure. Watching a nervous dog slowly transform into a trusting companion is one of the most rewarding experiences there is, and Parkay seems like he has all the ingredients to become an incredibly loyal best friend in the right home.
