About Callie

Polk County Callie UPDATE Callie is still at the original veterinary clinic/boarding facility. The staff adore her, but it's time for her to find her forever home, a foster, or a fostertoadopt family who can give her the time and space she needs to heal. What we've learned since Callie was pulled from Polk COunty Animal Control on April 29th. Callie is a deeply fearful Lab/Hound mix who needs a very specific environment to thrive — possibly a sanctuary or a home experienced with severely shutdown dogs. She was a stray raising puppies on her own, then ended up in a rural shelter where the noise overwhelmed her. She's fully vetted and trying so hard to be brave. She cannot be outside without supervision; fear makes her look for escape routes. She freezes around children, loud trucks, bikes, and scooters. She's submissive when leashed and still too scared to urinate outside, though she reliably poops on leash. She's neutral toward other dogs and cats and doesn't react to barking. Callie has mild separation anxiety at night and takes a low dose of Trazodone to help her settle. She loves food, peanut butter, sunshine, and watching birds and squirrels through a window. Callie needs a place where she can decompress for as long as she needs — weeks, months, or more. A quiet home or sanctuary with structure, patience, and natural light would change her life. She's gentle, sensitive, and trying every day. She just needs someone willing to meet her where she is. If you can open your home to Callie, please complete an adoption or foster application on our website to meet Callie.
