Somewhere out there, a person looked at their 6-month-old puppy acting exactly like a 6-month-old puppy and decided that surrender was the only solution. This is a little like buying a trumpet and being upset when it makes trumpet sounds. The thing about puppies is that they're not born with perfect manners or an understanding of household civilization. They don't arrive knowing concepts like "appropriate chew selection" or "inside voice." Puppies are tiny furry chaos machines, and our mission, should we choose to accept it, is to teach them with kindness, patience, and consistency -- sometimes while standing in the yard at 2 a.m. wearing pajamas and two completely different shoes. A puppy is an investment. You put in time, encouragement, and love, and eventually you get this incredible payoff: a loyal companion who thinks you hung the moon. And Goldie? She's absolutely worth the investment. Already, she's showing us what a fantastic dog she is -- affectionate, smart, eager to learn, eager to please, and endlessly entertaining. She has the kind of bright, curious personality that makes you want to teach her things because you can practically see the gears turning in her little puppy brain. We introduced her to her neighbor, Bear, and the two of them immediately launched into what appeared to be the Puppy Olympics -- wrestling (sometimes midair), running, toy-sharing, water-bowl diplomacy, then back to wrestling again. Goldie plays with her whole heart, and she approaches life like every day is the last day of school and the world is warm, breezy, and full of possibility. One day, the person lucky enough to adopt Goldie is going to look at her sprawled across the couch -- happy, devoted, and completely woven into the fabric of their life -- and realize they didn't just "get a dog."
