If we believe it may be a good match, we will reach out to schedule a phone interview, followed by a video call with the foster home. A virtual home visit, along with personal and veterinary reference checks, are required to complete the adoption process. Once approved, the dog will be placed on the next available transport, which runs every few weeks and is included in the adoption donation. If you are not able to welcome a dog until a later date, please wait to apply until that time. We are a volunteer-run rescue and donate our time to help these dogs find homes.  Kano is the kind of puppy who somehow already knows he’s handsome. At around 9 weeks old and 3lbs, this little Chihuahua mix has a naturally dapper look about him and isn’t shy about striking a pose when he knows you’re watching. He came into rescue as part of an owner surrender with his mom (11 lbs and we've included a pic of her as well), and we suspect dad is similar in size. Kano is expected to stay on the smaller side once fully grown. Kano is being fostered in Austin, Texas and is available for adoption out of state. Transport can be arranged by the rescue once matched with an approved adopter. The adoption process includes an application, phone interview, video call with the foster home, virtual home visit, and vet and personal reference checks. Right now, Kano is still learning all about the world around him. He may be a little unsure at first in new situations, but he warms up quickly and starts to show his playful, easygoing personality. He’s a happy, curious puppy who enjoys exploring, playing, and then settling in once he’s comfortable. He’s doing well with other dogs and benefits from being around friendly, confident pups. He tends to follow their lead, jumping into play once he feels safe, and would likely enjoy having a canine companion to help build his confidence and keep him company. Like all puppies his age, Kano just needs a little patience, structure, and consistency as he learns the basics. He’s still working on house training and crate training and will need a family ready to guide him through that process. Because he’s so young, he’ll do best in a home where someone is around more often than not to support his development and give him the attention he needs to thrive. Kano hasn’t been around cats or young children yet, but would likely do well in a calm home with respectful, well-mannered kids who understand how to interact with a small puppy. A steady environment will help him continue building confidence.
