About Bobo

Some dogs are naturally timid or shy, while others may not have learned to trust people while they were young. These dogs need to feel safe before they will interact with people; the work to build a relationship of trust could be a long and hard one but the experience can be one of the most rewarding of dog ownership. Chicken Little Dogs: are fearful of new people and places, take time to trust, shut down here at the shelter, and may growl or bite if a dog is pressured to interact too quickly. However, once they trust a person, they often become very bonded. OTHER PETS: Bobo was intrigued by other dogs and greeted them appropriately but is more comfortable with dogs close to his own size. He would likely do well with other low key dogs and should meet any he would be living with prior to adoption. [Case-By-Case (Must Meet First)] OWNER EXPERIENCE: Experience with positive reinforcement or willingness to learn. Bobo will need the support of a human who will build trust, let him set the pace, and help him feel safe while developing Bobo's self confidence. Ensuring everyone respects his need for space and time as he decompresses in his new home will help him thrive and build trust. [Some Experience] KIDS: Bobo is VERY fearful of new people - when dogs are forced to interact with people it can create a dog who feels defensive. We want Bobo to be set up for success, so his human family members should be old enough to learn how to read body language and give space when requested (please visit the Dog Body Language & Bite Prevention page on our website). Younger children should be actively supervised in the presence of dogs to keep everyone safe. [15+ / Dog Savvy (Must Meet First)] ACTIVITY LEVEL: Bobo is more interested in human interaction than in playing with toys, we are unsure if he even knows what toys are, but he can learn about them in his new home! He enjoys exploring the world around him and getting attention from humans; once he is settled and feels safe in his new place he may be more open to exploring play. Ensuring Bobo gets his steps (and sniffs) in will keep him in good physical condition as he ages. Regular exercise combnined with mental enrichment such as food puzzles and scent games will help meet his needs while having fun. [Good Walking Buddy] VETERINARY CARE: Brachycephalic dogs have a greater likelihood of developing breathing difficulties over the course of their life, they are also more apt to overheat in hot weather and are prone to eye infections. Care needs to be taken to ensure that their wrinkles are cleaned, neglected wrinkles can become irritated or infected, and skin irritation spreads quickly throughout their body. A strong relationship with a vet is recommended to ensure that Bobo ages gracefully. [Above Average] GROOMING: [Minimal] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Bobo bond with his new owner and build confidence while learning new skills and fun tricks.
