Hi, my name is Akira! I'm a PURPLE pawprint, which means I will fit well into a home that meets some specific criteria. Here is what would work best for me in my new home: -Personality: Intelligent, spunky, energetic -Can Live with Kids: Yes - Akira lived with a 12 and 15 year old in her previous home. Being a young, high energy, large breed dog, she may do best with older kiddos who don't mind being knocked over from time to time. Recommending 10+ at this time. -Can Live with Cats: High prey drive - not recommended. -Can Live with Dogs: Akira lived successfully with other dogs in her previous home and should be fine doing so again. She can be somewhat reactive on leash (we attribute this to an extended period of time kenneled in shelter environment, likely to improve overtime once settled in new home.) All initial introductions done at WHS to ensure everyone gets along. -Can do Apartment Living: No, thanks! This high energy Northern Breed would love a home with a yard (fenced would be ideal!) -Potty Trained: Yes -Bite History: No -Positive Reward Based Obedience Classes Required: Not required. -Energy Level: High! -Needs Medical Procedure Before Going Home: Nope, good to go! Akira is a happy-go-lucky husky who’s looking for her next adventure partner! She recently returned to the shelter due to her owner’s declining health and is understandably a little confused about finding herself back at WHS. Despite the change, she’s remained her cheerful, affectionate self and is ready to find a loving, stable home again. Like many huskies, Akira is athletic, intelligent, curious, and just mischievous enough to keep life entertaining. She has also gained a few extra pounds during her time away, so her ideal home will be committed to giving her plenty of exercise, enrichment, and adventures to help her get back to a healthy weight while keeping her busy and happy! Akira would make a wonderful companion for someone who enjoys walks, hikes, outdoor activities, and the fun-loving personality Huskies are known for. If you’re looking for a loyal sidekick with a zest for life, Akira may be your perfect match! If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website (www.whatcomhumane.org/adopt) or in person at our facility. We recommend calling into the shelter after your application has been submitted so our front desk can give you next steps on our adoption process.
