About Briar

*If you are interested in adopting Briar, please fill out an application at: www.loveandpuppypawsdogrescue.com/adoption-application Briar is a sweet, laid back 8 week old lab / shepherd mix pup that weighs 8 lbs. She is estimated to be around 45 lbs when she is fully grown. With her confident and curious personality, adventurous spirit, and loving nature, Briar is the perfect pup for a variety of families. She’s easy going and adaptable, and fits seamlessly into different environments. When introduced to something new, she likes to sit back for a moment and quietly take everything in before confidently exploring on her own. She has a calm, thoughtful demeanor that makes her feel wise beyond her puppy age. While she absolutely loves people and adores affection, she’s incredibly polite and gentle when meeting someone new. Rather than jumping all over guests for attention, she patiently waits for pets and affection before she melts right into your arms for cuddles and belly rubs. She has a wonderfully balanced energy level. She enjoys playtime and exploring, but she’s naturally more relaxed and lower energy than the rest of her siblings. She doesn’t need constant entertaining from her humans and is fantastic at keeping herself busy with her toys and chew bones. Whether she’s happily tossing around her favorite toys, chewing on a bone, or stretching out nearby on a cozy dog bed while her humans work, she is content simply being close to her people. Because of her calm and adaptable nature, she would make an especially wonderful companion for someone who works from home. She’s perfectly happy hanging out quietly during the workday, but she’ll never turn down cuddle breaks or a few minutes of extra love in between meetings. Affection is truly Briar’s love language. She adores being held, snuggled, and doted on whenever possible. When she starts getting sleepy, she’ll happily curl up in your lap for belly rubs before drifting off to sleep. She’s the kind of puppy who forms deep bonds with her people and simply loves being included in everyday life. Whether you’re running errands around town, enjoying a patio outing, going for a walk, or spending a quiet evening on the couch, Briar will be happy to be right by your side. With her adaptable personality, loving heart, and calm confidence, Briar is going to be the perfect mix of adventure buddy and couch companion.  Briar is low to medium energy, and is more on the laid back. As she gets older, her energy level will likely increase. As she gets older, she will be perfectly content going on short leisurely walks around the neighborhood and have a few short play sessions in the backyard. If you want to go on longer hikes and playing at the beach, she will be happy to join too. She matches her human's energy, so if you want to cuddle up on the couch for a movie night, Briar will be snoozing around right beside you. She's very observant and likes to process her surroundings before jumping into action, so she would likely do well going on outdoor adventures. Because of her calmer, more observant nature and her focused attention on her humans, she could potentially even be able to be off leash on hiking trips once she is fully trained on recall. She also enjoys activities that give her a bit of mental stimulation, so puzzle games and treat dispensing toys that she can work on to win the main prize, some yummy dog treats, are a necessity in her forever home. Her ideal home will have a toy box full of squeaky toys, ropes, and chew toys, and she’d be thrilled to have a BarkBox subscription to keep the fun going with new surprises every month, especially now that she is about to start teething. Briar's ideal family is one who enjoys a balance of activity and relaxation. As she grows, she would love going on hikes, walks, outdoor adventures, and fun outings, but she’ll be just as excited to come home afterward and spend the evening cuddled up on the couch beside her favorite humans. Briar is dog, cat, and kid friendly. She is currently in a foster home with other dogs and her siblings, and she loves other dogs. When it comes to making doggy friends, Bloom is very polite and waits for the other dog to initiate play time. She is more independent than the rest of her litter and will usually be casually hanging back on the dog bed watching the rest wrestle and play. Once her siblings engage in play with her, she will show off her silly, playful side. She is the type of pup that would do well with calmer older dogs or playful, spunky dogs in a forever home. She would also thrive as the center of attention in a home where she gets plenty of love and interaction. Briar do well with kids of all ages and would love to have kids in the home that she can play and cuddle with. She may trip a young child or toddler who is learning how to walk because of her small size and tendency to walk so close to your feet, so making sure she has a safe space to hang out in while a young toddler is learning to walk is recommended. She is very gentle, sweet, and loves to be cuddled and loved on, so if there are older kids in the home to play with and give her affection, she's going to be a happy girl. Because of her young age and how easily adaptable she is, she would be able to join a family that has a cat in the home. Since she is a puppy, she would do best with dog-friendly cats that have lived with dogs before as she is a puppy and may want to play with them. She is going to start teething soon, so her humans will need to keep a watchful eye on her to make sure she doesn't chew on human kid toys laying around.  Briar is currently working on kennel training, potty training and leash training. She sleeps in a playpen at night with no fuss and will be transitioning to a kennel now that she's able to go longer at night between potty breaks. When she gets older, she would really love to snuggle up in bed with her humans every night so she can get in as many cuddles as possible though. She loves to go on outings in her doggy stroller and also likes to be carried in a doggy pouch though, so while she is still little, she can be taken on fun outings until she masters leash training. She will need additional practice to perfect her leash walking skills in her forever home. She is doing well with potty pad training and will use a potty pad if she needs to go. She has started transitioning to going potty outside, but does not know how to alert her foster mom yet. It is recommended to use a doggy door bell by the back door to help her learn how to notify you when she needs to go outside. She does need a consistent schedule and be taken out every few hours, so she will need someone who either works from home or that can come home on lunch breaks to let her out consistently.  Briar's ideal home would be one where she can be included in her family’s daily life and get plenty of love, exercise, and attention. She would love to live in a home with a fenced yard to run and play in, but she’d also be perfectly content in an apartment, condo, or townhouse as long as she gets regular walks and playtime. She would thrive in a home with another friendly dog and some kids to cuddle and play with. She's also the type of dog that can be completely happy being the "only child" and getting all her humans' love and affection to herself too. No public dog parks for this sweet girl because who wants to risk your pup catching a disease or being bullied on by other random dogs anyways. She would love to have fun adventures at Sniff Spots for playtime and exercise when she gets older if she does live in an apartment, condo, or townhouse without a private fenced-in yard. She would love if her human works from home or works a hybrid schedule, and even would love to go to work with you if you go to a dog-friendly office. If you work out of the home and she is the only dog, she would benefit from going to doggy day care a few days a week so she can continue socializing with other dogs as she gets older. Briar's ideal family would be one that wants to spend lots of quality time with her, whether that's going on fun outings or staying home hanging out cuddling. Bloom is in a foster home in Central Texas. She can be adopted and transported to the following cities/states: www.loveandpuppypawsdogrescue.com/transport-locations TRANSPORT: Currently we have monthly transports. It will be up to the adoptive family to meet the transport to pick up your new family member. Please be advised that our dogs are adopted to their forever families prior to being transported. Unfortunately at this time, we cannot bring dogs for a typical meet and greet situation, due to the extensiveness of the transport distance. Applications are reviewed in the order that they are received. To ensure we are honoring the dogs that we have committed to helping, we have policies and procedures in place that we follow when reviewing adoption applications. LAPP Dog Rescue is ran 100% by volunteers, so when you submit an application it can take a few days to be reviewed. Submitting an application is not a confirmation that the adoption will be approved. Before submitting the application, please read the FULL bio describing the dog's personality, energy level, housing requirements and our policy on meet and greets. The cost to adopt is $850, which includes $400 adoption fee, a $250 transport fee, and a $200 REFUNDABLE spay deposit. The adoption fee includes all age appropriate vaccinations, microchip, flea/tick/heartworm prevention, health certificate from a licensed veterinarian, plus any necessary vet care while in the rescue's care. The $200 refundable spay deposit will be paid directly to the adopter's vet before the spay appointment once she is old enough to undergo the procedure.
