AvailableAbout Raven
Raven is a 30-lb blue heeler/shepard mix estimated around 2-yrs old. She was rescued with a group of dogs from New Mexico, and likely only ever knew the comfort of having other dogs around, not of humans or of the safety of a home. Raven is a very shy, observative, smart girl who understandably takes her time warming up to new people and learning to trust. Her perfect home is out there, and from what we have learned of her over the last couple of months, these are the things that would set her and her forever family up for the most success. She loves nothing more than other dogs and will do best in a home with another confident, nurturing dog to continue to learn from and build her confidence. She also LOVES toys/stuffies, so a friend or human to play tug with is an added bonus! She is house trained but needs a fenced yard. Her yard is her safe space. She has shown no interest in going potty on walks/leash (and oh we have tried!). But confidently potties in the yard, and LOVES playing with toys and other dogs in the yard, and it has helped bring her confidence and silly side out! She needs to be part of the family - aka, allowed to snuggle next to you on the couch and in bed. She is a pack dog and when she feels she's part of the pack, her confidence and bond gets so much stronger, and any fears/anxieties of still-new environments calm. When you leave, she is great when left to roam free with her other dog friend - being locked in a room or crate is immensely scary and overwhelming. With some exercise and a frozen kong for enrichment, she does very well when left. She would love someone who works from home at least part of the week while she is getting settled into her new environment. She has learned she LOVES hiking! She generally just likes being active so an active family would be a dream. The exercise also helps with bonding and her being more relaxed in new environments. She is smart and learns fast, but ongoing training would benefit her and her new parents, and help to further build trust. She could be a master of agility coursework if given the chance! Raven is simply a special dog. She is not the dog to run up and greet new people right away, but she is the dog who, once she chooses you, in melts into you and gives her whole heart to her person.
