Meet Toby! Toby is a 4 year old German Shepherd mix who came to us for medical treatment. Toby just wants to be close to people, soaking up belly rubs, affection, and attention whenever he can get it. Our initial concern was that Toby’s condition could be caused by cancer or lupus. Toby’s biopsy results came back and thankfully ruled out cancer. However, the results were inconclusive for lupus, meaning they could neither confirm nor rule out the diagnosis. Toby has responded well to steroid medication so our medical team believes he is finally ready to begin the next chapter of his life in a home of his own. Toby is a special boy, and any adopter interested in him should have an established veterinarian who can continue monitoring and managing his care. He will need to remain on medication for the foreseeable future, and while it’s possible he may eventually be able to discontinue it, there is also a chance he could require lifelong treatment. We know that may sound like a big commitment, but we truly believe Toby is worth it. He acts just like a typical shepherd — loyal, loving, and eager to please. Toby is hoping there is someone out there willing to look past his quirky nose and ongoing medical needs and give him the chance he deserves. No appointment is necessary to adopt. Adoptions are on a first-come, first-served basis, by visiting the shelter. Applications are not accepted in advance, but will be filled out upon adoption. If you have another dog and/or children in your family and are interested in adopting a FAPL dog, please bring them with you for a meet and greet. Please bring a copy of lease agreement if you rent home/apartment. All dogs receive one or more vaccinations, a basic veterinary examination, are dewormed, microchipped, and spayed or neutered. Dogs 7 months and older are heartworm tested. Upon visiting FAPL, if you don’t see a particular dog you are looking for that is on the website, please ask at the front desk.
