About Nova

Nova is a two year old, brindle colored Plott Hound that is about 55lbs She resource guards her bones, bed, food and sometimes toys. She is especially possessive over any sort of wet dog food and I do not advise giving her any human food unless it is frozen and given in a treat or lick mat. She also gets aggressive when startled such as when she’s sleeping and hears noise or is bumped. I’d advise she is kenneled at nighttime/during naps, or keep your bedroom door closed with her outside of it. She behaves great for bathing/drying but she does does not like her nails trimmed. In general, she gets along with cats and other dogs. Supervised visit would be ideal where no triggers are present, such as at a dog park. She can share a water bowl, sometimes toys. She cannot share bones or food, they must be put away before another animal is present. She should be fed in a separate room as other animals. She does walk great on a leash, is kennel trained, is very smart and knows a ton of tricks. She loves belly rubs, long walks, enjoying pup cups and trips to the dog park. A few of the tricks she knows include: sit, stay, lay down, patience (offer treat with open hand and fingers up, when you close hand she will take the treat) spin, twirl, shake, go to your bed, “through” (walking through legs as you walk or jumping through a hula hoop), when on walks she knows “cross” to cross the road, “wait” and “let’s go.” She also knows to sit before putting on a leash, and to sit before setting down her food on the ground and she will sit there until you make eye contact and say “good girl” and then she will eat her food. I think she would be great at agility.
