About Border Terrier Dogs

Oakland winters are cool and wet, with rain falling mostly between November and March. Lake Merritt and neighborhood parks remain pleasant on dry days. Muddy conditions on hills trails are common, so stick to paved paths after storms.

Spring brings greening hillsides and wildflowers throughout the East Bay parks. As rain tapers off, trails in Joaquin Miller Park and Redwood Regional Park dry out for hiking. Watch for foxtail grass that begins appearing in late spring and can be dangerous for dogs.

Oakland summers are dry and mild, with moderate temperatures comfortable for all breeds. Wildfire smoke from the East Bay hills may occasionally affect air quality. Check foxtail grass areas carefully and inspect your dog’s ears, nose, and paws after hikes.
