Deke is a striking young German Shepherd who hasn’t had the easiest start. At just a year old, he was adopted but landed in a place unprepared for his needs. He spent most days isolated in a basement, missing out on the world. Since arriving at the rescue, Deke has begun to come out of his shell. He’s opening up to volunteers, showing a gentle, sweet side and warming up more every day. There’s still some uncertainty in new situations, but his progress is real—he loves his walks and has discovered how much fun toys can be. Deke is young and eager to keep learning. A calm, confident dog in the home could be a huge help for him, but the most important thing is patience and continued, gentle introductions to new experiences. He gets along with cats, too.
