About Mia

Mia is a 6-year-old, spayed Terrier mix with a sweet heart, a playful personality, and a big love for routine. She has been overlooked for far too long, and we know her right person is out there — someone patient enough to let her settle in and see the good dog we already know she is. Mia can seem a little mouthy when she is nervous, excited, or trying to play, but this is not who she is once she feels safe. After she settles in, learns your routine, and becomes comfortable with her humans, her mouthiness becomes basically non-existent. She just needs someone who understands that trust takes a little time. Mia is a total foodie and treats are one of the best ways to build that trust. She loves food and is especially happy to snack on dog-safe fruits and veggies like carrots, celery, broccoli, strawberries, pineapple, watermelon, and blueberries in appropriate portions. Her housetraining is also much better than it may seem at first. Once Mia knows the routine and her people understand her signals, she does very well. She will often sit by the door or whine when she needs to go outside. If those signals are missed, especially while she is still learning a new home, she may have an accident near the door. A house with a consistent schedule and quick access outside would be ideal. Mia’s crate is her safe place. It gives her somewhere to decompress, rest, and feel secure. She will do best with people who respect that need and give her a predictable routine. Mia does have some boundaries that are important to understand. She may not like being picked up by people she does not know, especially men, so we recommend letting her choose interaction at her own pace. If she feels scared or cornered, picking her up can make her panic and may lead to an accidental bite. Calm handling and reading her body language are important. Mia can also get defensive if a much larger dog rushes up to her with too much energy, even if the other dog is just trying to say “hi.” In those moments, Mia may growl or lunge to create space. She is not looking for trouble — she is asking for room. For her comfort and safety, Mia should avoid dog parks, surprise dog greetings, and close encounters with unknown high-energy dogs. Mia will do best with an adopter who has prior dog experience, can offer patience and structure, and is willing to let her blossom at her own pace. She does not need a perfect home. She needs a committed one. If you are the kind of person who believes overlooked dogs deserve a real chance, Mia may be waiting for you.
