Anyone who has ever loved a senior lab knows they are the best! And Smitty is no exception! Around 11 years old and weighing about 70 pounds, Smitty is just the sweetest soul. Found in the swampy bayous of Louisiana, it’s clear he somehow lost his people. Smitty is the friendliest, most affectionate boy there is. If you’re looking for a dog that will snuggle with you on the couch, he’s the one. If you’re looking for a dog who will lay with you while you drink your morning coffee, Smitty’s right up your alley. If you’re looking for a dog that gets all excited when you walk in from a long day at work, you found him. Even at his advanced age, he still gets a little jump to him, but he doesn’t jump on you – he just wants to say that he’s excited that you are home. Smitty will let you know when he needs to go potty by getting up and pacing or he’ll take you to the door. Smitty loves a little outdoor time in the sun, especially if you’re out there with him. When he heads inside, he will reclaim his throne on the couch, waiting patiently for you to either feed him or give him the belly rubs that he deserves. Smitty is ready to live out his golden years in a loving home with someone who is ready to spoil him and treat him like the king he is! Smitty loves climbing in the recliner with you and cuddling. Sleeping on the couch with all four feet in the air is his favorite position. If you don’t allow pets on your furniture, then Smitty is not the one for you. Dog beds, not happening! He just steps over them on his way to the couch. He is good with cats and is very dog friendly. He still likes a little playtime with other dogs! He does prefer larger dogs or a small calm dog. He isn’t a big fan of small dogs in his face. Smitty does not like being crated but with his perfect behavior there is absolutely no reason to crate him. He walks great on a leash and LOVES car rides! Smitty is an absolute doll, and he deserves the absolute best home ever. He is hoping for a family who is going to dedicate their time to giving him the best remaining years of his life. Smitty was definitely loved by someone at one time, and he probably doesn’t understand how he ended up being left behind or abandoned, but he’s willing to love whoever will open their home and heart to him.
