Chabelo
Found a forever home! This male Boston Terrier is an adult small breed currently waiting for adoption at the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter. He is spayed/neutered and will do best with a family familiar with the traits and needs of brachycephalic dogs.
About Chabelo
Your new best friend is just one click away. Chabelo is a resilient Boston Terrier mix searching for a loving forever home at the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter. Despite having undergone an enucleation (removal) of his left eye due to trauma, Chabelo is feeling much more comfortable and remains full of spirit. He’s a peppy and social companion who adores going on walks with staff and volunteers. Although small in size, he is surprisingly strong and tends to pull on the leash. His social nature extends to other dogs, though he can be a bit forward when greeting new canine friends, so introductions with resident dogs at the Shelter before adoption are recommended. Chabelo has previously lived harmoniously with cats—even sharing sleeping spaces—and has been known to rest quietly when left alone at home. House training was reported in his last home, especially with access to a doggy door. Due to his brachycephalic (short-nosed) breed background, adopters experienced with breeds like Boston Terriers are highly encouraged. Careful management of stress, heat, and exercise is important, and Chabelo may benefit from more frequent vet visits as he grows older. The Shelter’s clinic team is happy to discuss his care needs in more detail. Visit times and guidance on meeting him are available, and prospective adopters are encouraged to arrive before 4:00pm for meet and greets. Think you are the one? Submit an application!
